I Made You A Mixtape<\/strong> is a feature I’m going to run regularly where, as the title suggests, I’m going to make you a mixtape.\u00a0 Or maybe a guest will make you a mixtape. Or maybe we’ll put up a collaborative mix.\u00a0 But then, shouldn’t it be called “We Made You a Mixtape?” you ask.\u00a0 Hmm.\u00a0 Maybe you’re right.\u00a0 I’m really just thinking out loud.\u00a0 I am going to go ahead and guess that you have figured out by now that I haven’t really thought this through.\u00a0 Whatever.\u00a0 Deal with it.\u00a0 I made you a mixtape and this is how you treat me?<\/p>\n Sorry.\u00a0 Sidetracked.\u00a0 Point is, I Made You A Mixtape<\/strong>.\u00a0 This time through, I thought I’d share a recording from a gig I DJ’d a few years back at Tex Mex Connection<\/a> where I used to have a weekly residency (long time ago when I was fab…<\/em>).\u00a0 Every Thursday night, I used to spin what the kids call “the hot beats.”\u00a0 Copious amounts of drunken requests, but occasionally, I would do my best to sneak in little nuggets here and there for the heads.\u00a0 The people who were really listening<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 I DJ with the thought process of “Some for you…. some for me.”\u00a0 This is why I’m some people’s favorite DJ and the most hated of others.\u00a0 See, I strive for that moment where someone hears something for that first time, tilts their head, smiles and starts bumpin’.\u00a0 An excited “Yo…. what is this?!” is one of my favorite phrases to hear whenever I’m behind the decks.\u00a0 Or the throwback.\u00a0 The cut someone hasn’t heard in awhile.\u00a0 When that recognition kicks in and they can’t stop but jam out, maybe even give a little, “Yo!
